Mission
The vision of the Ministry Environment is to achieve sustainable development of the country in order to improve the quality of life of Chileans, both now and in the future.
It aims to achieve sustainable development through efficient public policies and regulations, the promotion of good practice and the improvement of public environmental education.
Funding
National funding is provided by Chilean Ministry of Environment. It finances the maintenance of the Chilean node.
The basic financial contribution to GBIF is made by the Comisión Nacional del Medio Ambiente (CONAMA).
History
The Chilean node was founded in 2012 and is a product of the GBIF mentoring project with Costa Rica (2011-2012) to facilitate the development of an information center on biodiversity in Chile. The Chilean node is part of the Ministry Environment, which is responsible for the maintenance and administration of the node, provides servers and looks for strategic alliances for new information.
Structure
The node is housed by the Ministry of Environment. Both the Division of Natural Resources and Biodiversity and the Office of Information Technology are involved in the management and support of the node.
