This GBIF-hosted side event will present work the network's efforts to:
- Support capacity development actions that expand and sustain a global community of practice for biodiversity data mobilization and use in research and policy
- Sustainable scaling-up of national biodiversity information facilities to deliver and influence national and regional objectives more effectively
- Lower the technical threshold to build capacity and innovation in biodiversity data management
Expected outcomes
- Communicate to CBD Parties and stakeholders the importance of building capacity in data mobilisation and use, to support the knowledge management component of the global biodiversity framework as part of the enabling conditions for broader implementation of goals and targets
- Demonstrate the effectiveness of existing mechanisms, curricula and expert networks developed through GBIF's Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) and Biodiversity Information Fund for Asia (BIFA) programmes
in building relevant communities of practice without designing additional start-up initiatives - Catalyse the development of new partnerships—including identification of potential funding sources—to support a significant scaling-up of capacity enhancement for data mobilization and use at all scales and in all regions
